I'll be at tek as well and I heartily recommend it as an excellent event since I went last year and thoroughly enjoyed both the technical content and the atmosphere as a whole.

For those in Europe with large plane fares to get across the pond, check out the Dutch Conference which is a few weeks later than Tek and just as good! http://phpconference.nl

(Brandon, hope you don't mind the blatant plug, see you at tek!!)

I thought about going. But considering the American employment environment I'm embarrassed to spend the cash. I know too many people out of work.

Are there going to be posted video's of the sessions?

I was able to attend "Code Works: Dallas" this year as my first conference, and it was great. I will be attending Confoo (speaker) and Tek X (attendee) this year.

What prompted me to get involved with the PHP community and conferences was when I started attending, regularly, Dallas PHP User Group. Get involved in your local user group!

I also considered going to Tek-X, but I just don't have the budget for it (I'd need to pay travel expenses from the Netherlands to the USA, my stay, the ticket, food and beverages).

I did attend the phpBenelux 2010 conference last weekend, and all I can say is that I recognize every single aspect mentioned in the blogpost plus the fact that conferences do encourage you to try new things. You get pushed in the right direction for things you might or might not have heard about which then seem to be more attractive to implement or much easier than you initially thought.

Also many user groups have meetings which are absolutely free to attend. I would encourage everyone to have a look at those meetings somewhere near you sometime. These meetings have much in common with the conferences and give you a good taste of it.

I'll be at tek-x this year as well. And this will be my first php conference! I'm really looking forward to it, especially getting to know people in the PHP community outside my home town of Milwaukee.

See you there!
